Why Volunteer with Tavistock Scrapstore

Volunteers are at the heart of Tavistock Scrapstore. Our charity depends on the time, energy, and kindness of local people who want to support creativity and recycling in the community. Every volunteer helps us keep the Scrapstore welcoming, organised, and inspiring for visitors of all ages.

We are proud to have more than 20 volunteers working with us throughout the week. Each person brings valuable skills, ideas, and enthusiasm to the organisation. Together, they help create a friendly and supportive environment for members, visitors, and local groups.

Helping in the Scrapstore

Some of our volunteers work directly in the shop. They welcome customers, answer questions, organise displays, and help members find materials for their creative projects. Their support helps make every visit to the Scrapstore enjoyable and accessible.

Other volunteers help behind the scenes by sorting donations and preparing materials for reuse. They organise fabrics, paper, craft supplies, plastics, ribbons, and many other items that arrive at the Scrapstore each week. Their work helps reduce waste and gives useful materials a second life.

Supporting Creativity in the Community

Several of our volunteers also help run workshops and creative sessions. These activities encourage children and adults to explore arts, crafts, recycling, and imaginative play in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Volunteers often share their own skills and ideas, which helps inspire confidence and creativity in others.
